His step-mother Liz McColgan won 10,000m gold at the 1991 World Championships in Tokyo, Japan, and competed at the Olympic Games in 1988, 1992 and 1996, and his step-sister Eilish McColgan also represented Great Britain at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
