Biography
Started: He took up badminton at age 13, and began competing in 2010. (athletemedia.co.uk, 15 Feb 2023; ebad.org.uk, 01 Mar 2013) Reason: He initially played tennis, and after watching the 2008 Paralympic Games he wanted to get involved in Para sport. As wheelchair tennis was not suitable, he went looking for another sport. "Growing up I played many sports including rugby, tennis, football and cricket. But racket sports were always my favourite, with members of my family competing at a high level in tennis. So, I sat on my bed and did a Google search and when badminton came up I thought - because my hand-eye coordination is good - it was worth a try." (BWF Instagram profile, 20 May 2024) Milestones: He became the first Great Britain badminton player to win a Paralympic medal when he claimed silver in the men's SL3 singles at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, the day before Krysten Coombs claimed bronze in the men's SH6 singles. (SportsDeskOnline, 01 Jul 2024) Additional Info: FURTHER EDUCATION He studied for a master's degree in international commercial law at the University of Bristol in England between 2017 and 2021.
