Biography
Started: She began playing wheelchair tennis in 2003 at age 23 in Hampshire, England. (Athlete, 11 Aug 2015) Reason: "Pete Norfolk [British wheelchair tennis player] introduced me to wheelchair tennis as I was a former badminton player. I love the sport, it's done so much for me since my accident. He lent me a tennis chair and said you know what why don't you try tennis. And I didn't take up the sport to be a Paralympian or to play Grand Slams, I started playing cause I'd had the accident and my life was suddenly very, very different to what it had been. Playing tennis made me smile again and challenged me in so many different ways. It meant I could go and play with my friends and family and it was something that helped me find a way to accept both my accident and my disability." (everybodymoves.org.uk, 13 Jul 2023; itftennis.com, 12 Jul 2023; Athlete, 11 Aug 2015) Ambition: To win a medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, and to win a Grand Slam title.
