Biography
Started: She took up the sport in 2007 in Yuba City, CA, United States of America. "I actually didn't want to do track, but my brother talked me into it. I gave it a shot and surprised myself, my parents and my coaches because I was pretty fast. I tried so many sports when I was younger. I tried volleyball, basketball and tennis but they all involved a ball so they never really worked out. I love running because it's the one thing I can do without having help from anybody else." (Challenged Athletes Foundation Facebook page, 24 Nov 2020; Athlete, 17 Jul 2017; today.csuchico.edu, 30 Sep 2016; theorion.com, 18 Sep 2013) Reason: Her performances at high school earned her an athletic scholarship at California State University, Chico, where she represented the women's track team in 2012 and 2014 and started to take the sport more seriously. "Being on the Chico track team helped me get that mindset of, 'I need to take this more seriously and start working my butt off to get to where I want to go'." (Challenged Athletes Foundation Facebook page, 24 Nov 2020; today.csuchico.edu, 30 Sep 2016; theorion.com, 18 Sep 2013) Ambition: To win gold at the Paralympic Games. (Athlete, 06 Nov 2019) Additional Info: COACHING She has worked as a coach for visually impaired athletes with the Challenged Athletes Foundation [CAF] High School Adaptive Sports Program in the United States of America. "The number one thing I want to do is be the role model for these young girls. When I was in college I used to go to the local elementary schools and talk to the visually impaired students and they would tell me that they had no idea they could do sports and that broke my heart, so I made it my goal to be the role model for them."
