Biography
Started: He took up the sport as a non-Para swimmer at a young age. He got involved in Para swimming when he started his bachelor's degree at Harvard University in the United States of America. (teamusa.org, 10 Jun 2021)
Reason: "I didn't really know that Para swimming was a route that I could take until I got to college. I had this unique kind of position within the sport, and I didn't really know there was competition for people that were like me who were obviously differently abled than more traditional athletes in their respective sports. I've been swimming my whole life, so it was just a transition to learn how to swim without sight during that whole process. One of our family friends had swum for a coach at a local college who happened to be one of the coaches on the US Paralympic team. Within about six months of hearing about it, I was competing at some of the highest-level meets in the field." (boston.com, 22 Apr 2022; teamusa.org, 10 Jun 2021)
Ambition: To compete at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. (usparaswimming.org, 05 Jan 2024)
Awards: In 2019 he was inducted into the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, Delaware County Chapter. (gocrimson.com 01 Sep 2020)
Additional Info: PLANNED RETIREMENT
He expects to retire from competitive in sport in 2024 to focus on his career as a mathematician. He has a job lined up as a quantitative researcher at an investment management firm. "I'm really in a good head space about where I'm at and what I want to do with the time I have left [in Para swimming]. I'm just excited to be out there and compete before it's over." (usparaswimming.org, 05 Jan 2024)
Sporting Relatives: His brother James is a distance runner who has competed for Pennsylvania State University in the United States of America. (gocrimson.com 01 Sep 2020)
