In 2017 she completed chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer. In December of that year she won bronze in the S12 100m backstroke at the world championships in Mexico City, Mexico, which was her first world championship medal. "The best medal I could win I already won this year, which is life. We cannot give up on our dreams. This medal came to end the year with a more special taste.
