Reason: He was advised to try a sport during rehabilitation after he acquired his impairment. "I knew the sport by chance as I had had my accident and was already away from the Military Police corps and was waiting for my reformation. I saw a TV report in which there was a sporting programme for people with an impairment at the University of Campinas. I was introduced to wheelchair fencing without knowing anything about it.
