Biography
Started: He began swimming as a boy, and competed in non-disabled swimming until 2009. In 2017 he started competing in Para swimming. (cpb.org.br, 01 Jun 2019)
Reason: At age 16 he quit the sport to focus on his studies in civil engineering. He ended up returning to the pool while he was at university. "I was just expecting to swim during my university holidays but my brother [Thomaz Matera] encouraged me to continue after he competed at the [2016] Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. Awards: He was named Best Male Athlete of the 2023 Parapan American Games in Santiago, Chile, by Panam Sports. He also received the award for Best Athlete at the 2023 Parapan American Games from the Brazilian Paralympic Committee.
