- It started with torn and detached retinas and developed into other complications such as glaucoma
- Parents are Terry and Beth Buhler
- Has three siblings - Allie, Kameron and Kendall
- Both his mother-in-law, Karen Helmacy, and father-in-law, Jerry Windell, played goalball and won Paralympic medals
- Karen was a gold medalist in javelin and goalball in 1984, and Jerry won silver in goalball in 1988
- Hobbies include playing the drums, working out, and watching football all day on Sundays.
