- Mark Barr lost his right leg as a teenager due to bone cancer.
- Barr competed in swimming at the Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
- During this time, he was also an NCAA Division I swimmer for California Polytechnic State University from 2004-08.
- After college, he still had an interest in swimming, but wanted to try something new so he decided to transition to triathlon.
- Some of his more recent accomplishments include being awarded the 2019 ESPY for Best Male Athlete with a Disability and being named the 2018 USA Triathlon Male Paratriathlete of the Year.
- Barr currently works as a registered nurse in the trauma surgical ICU, working multiple 12-hour shifts a week.
- He uses his days off to fit in training sessions for all three disciplines. His favorite professional sports teams are the San Francisco Giants and the 49ers.
