Luba Lowery

Luba Lowery lived in a Russian orphanage until age four when her American mother adopted her. At the time of her adoption her mother, Marcia, was not aware that Lowery suffered from Proximal Focal Femoral Disorder (PFFD) and was missing her hip sockets.

Lowery is currently attending University of Denver and will graduate this summer with a degree in Russian and a minor in international studies. Last year she spent a semester abroad in Russia, where she was able to visit the orphanage she lived at and find information on her birth family.

Despite her busy schedule with school Lowery is very dedicated to her training. She gets up at 5:30 every morning to start her day off in the gym, goes to practice and ends her day in the gym again.

Lowery is the recipient of the 2010 Stephen Ricci Award for sportsmanship, and someday hopes to become a teacher and adopt a child herself.
