  • His happiest moment in life was when he met nephew Christian for the first time. He was born while Smith was at the Marine Corps Recruit Training in September, 2005

  • Served in the Marine Corp from 2005-2015, serving a tour of duty in Fallujah, Iraq from 2008-09.
  • Right leg was amputated in 2013 following a firearms accident during which a 12-gauge shotgun round hit his leg around the ankle, severing his Achilles tendon, multiple arteries and destroying tissue and ligaments. After doctors gave him a 5 percent chance of full recovery, he decided to have the affected area removed.
