Biography
Started: He began swimming at age seven at school. He stopped swimming in grade 10 because he wanted to play a team sport, and took up football for a while, before returning to swimming. (Athlete, 09 Sep 2019) Reason: He began swimming, along with other activities like cycling and playing the drums and piano, to help strengthen his upper body and improve coordination. "I wouldn't say I'm sporty, just competitive. I don't think I'm naturally good at things, I'm just a person who practises a lot. I love playing sport. You get so much testosterone and endorphins. And the adrenaline - it's addictive." (Athlete, 09 Sep 2019) Ambition: To compete at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. (speedo.co.za, 04 Nov 2022) Awards: He and netball player Bongiwe Msomi were flag bearers for South Africa at the opening ceremony of the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.
