Biography
Started: He began Para cycling in 2015, and later switched to Para triathlon. (rotterdamtopsport.nl, 25 May 2018)
Reason: "On a sports talent day I was asked to join the Para cycling team. It was the year before Rio 2016 [Paralympic Games]. I came sixth in a time trial. The next big Para cycling competition would be a year later. I thought, 'I'm not going to wait for that'. But then I also thought maybe triathlon was something for me. I couldn't swim fast, but I could run and cycle fast." (rotterdamtopsport.nl, 25 May 2018)
Ambition: To win gold at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. (unieksporten.nl, 24 May 2024)
Additional Info: FATHERHOOD
He became a father to a daughter in early 2024. "Before she was born, I trained more than ever. Becoming a father gave me extra motivation. Once she arrived, I was struck by the question, 'What does this whole sport actually mean? What is it about? Who cares if I win or lose? I have to keep this little creature alive'. I'm going for gold at the 2024 Paralympic Games. It's also for my daughter. I want to set a good example and show that if you want something, you have to go for it." (teamnl.org, 20 Jun 2024)
OCCUPATION
He has worked as a consultant for sports foundation Rotterdam Sportsupport in the Netherlands. "As an association advisor, I help Rotterdam sports clubs in the field of legal matters and organisational issues. In the run-up to the 2024 Paralympic Games, I am temporarily resigning from my work to focus fully on the Games and my family." (unieksporten.nl, 24 May 2024; LinkedIn profile, 22 Jan 2024)
