Reason: He has been interested in sport since an early age, and tried gymnastics as a toddler. He began swimming competitively at age eight after joining Hoorn Swim Club, and soon won medals at regional competitions in the Netherlands. "I love being in the water. It gives me a feeling of freedom. I knew I could swim well. And especially in open water because it was taught at home from a young age.
