Started: He took up the sport in 2015. (parasapo.tokyo, 14 Jun 2018) Reason: He decided to switch from wheelchair basketball to wheelchair fencing as he wanted to compete at the Paralympic Games again. He had represented Japan in wheelchair basketball at the Games in 2004, before turning down the opportunity to compete in 2008. He was then not selected for the Japanese wheelchair basketball team for the 2012 Paralympic Games in London. "I regretted declining to represent Japan in Beijing in 2008."
