She considered retiring from competition after the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, where she lost her bronze medal match in the -57kg category. JUDO HUSBAND
She met her husband, fellow Japanese Para judoka Haruka Hirose, in 2013 at a tournament in Colorado Springs, CO, United States of America. The couple married in 2015. "We had a long-distance relationship at first. Therefore, I told him, 'If a distance is a problem, I will go to Ehime [in Japan], so please marry me'. At that time, I wasn't sure whether I would be able to continue my sporting career there, but it was okay just to be with him. Even if training is intense, I feel assured that Haruka is with me. I would've quit judo if my husband was not with me." (smbcnikko.co.jp, Oct 2020; Para Do Fuji TV, 24 Aug 2020; Nippon Challenged Athlete Radio, 19 Feb 2018)
