Her husband Ding Xiaochao has also represented the People's Republic of China in sitting volleyball. After Zhao gave birth to a daughter in early 2023, Ding decided not to compete at that year's Asian Para Games in Hangzhou, People's Republic of China, in order to take care of the baby and allow Zhao the chance to prepare for the Games.
