Biography
Started: She took up the sport at age 13 at the Alcobendas Sports School in Spain. At age 15 she joined a team. (lavozinclusiva YouTube channel, 20 Jun 2019; larazon.es, 22 Mar 2019) Reason: At a young age she practised several sports including table tennis. "That was the sport that I wanted to practise but the team was very far from my home and my parents couldn't take me to all training sessions." She then discovered wheelchair basketball and liked the team aspect of the sport. "What I loved about it is that it's a team sport. I love playing in a team sport because you can share everything with your teammates, victories and, especially, defeats." (soziable.es, 08 Mar 2023) Additional Info: UNIVERSITY OFFER In 2017 she rejected a scholarship to study and play for the University of Alabama in United States of America. "It was the year we had won the treble [Spanish league, Spanish cup, European league] for the second consecutive season and I thought, 'Where am I going to go if I am enjoying and getting titles here?' Many people told me I was giving up the opportunity of my life, but I thought my opportunity was to stay with CD Ilunion." (marca.com, 26 May 2019; larazon.es, 22 Mar 2019; cadenaser.com, 01 Aug 2017) TRAINING CAMP In 2021 she launched a basketball training camp alongside coach Miguel Vaquero. "The camp has the aim of encouraging girls to take up basketball and setting a place where they can practise it. We cover them all, wheelchair basketball, for able-bodied and for people with an intellectual impairment. And also for female coaches because there are so few at any professional sports in general. So the camp is also aimed to give them a place where they can learn." (marca.com, 09 Mar 2022) FURTHER EDUCATION She studied for a master's degree in meteorology and geophysics.
