Biography
Started: He took up shooting Para sport after finishing his rehabilitation in 2017 at age 29 at the VIDENA High Performance Centre in Lima, Peru. (diariocorreo.pe, 11 Sep 2019; Athlete, 02 Sep 2024) Reason: He knew how to shoot from his time working in the police, and took up shooting Para sport after sustaining his impairment. "Before the attack, we formed a tactical shooting team with my police friends. Then the accident happened and I was looking for something to practise. It was then that I found shooting again. It made me feel better because I am passionate about it and it gives me confidence. I tried a lot of sports, but shooting is my thing. I feel it is what I enjoy most." (diariocorreo.pe, 08 Feb 2019) Ambition: He wants to create an organisation in Peru that helps young people to have a better life through sport. (Athlete, 02 Sep 2024) Milestones: He was one of the first three Para shooters to represent Peru at an international competition. Along with Jesus Rios and Steve Medina, he competed at the 2018 World Cup event in Chateauroux, France. (SportsDeskOnline, 16 Dec 2019; paralympic.org, 21 Sep 2018) Awards: He and Para badminton player Pilar Jauregui were named flag bearers for Peru for the opening ceremony of the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. (elcomercio.pe, 24 Jul 2024) In 2018 he was named Para Sportsperson of the Year by the Paralympic National Association of Peru. (anpperu.org, 29 Jan 2019) Additional Info: FURTHER EDUCATION He has studied for an online degree in psychology at the Peruvian University of Applied Sciences. "I have many projects to do, especially in social help. Since I realised the social reality in which we live in there is a lack of support for many young people, especially those with an impairment. So, giving them a chance would be important." (gob.pe, 09 Jun 2021; noticias.upc.edu.pe, 25 Jan 2021; larepublica.pe, 21 Mar 2024; Athlete, 02 Sep 2024)
