He had COVID-19 just before competing at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo. "I had COVID in June 2021. We had Tokyo in August and a month and a half before competing I was in bed with antibiotics and medication. That left me with a lot of physical ailments, but I still got there, and I managed to get into the final, my second Paralympic final. It is a moment where I won the battle against life and circumstances, this has a huge meaning for having faced all that and having achieved my goals." (cpc.org.co, 20 Apr 2022)

Since childhood he has helped his mother run a business in Colombia. "I am an entrepreneur. Since I was seven or eight years old, I supported my mother in her work. I helped her in a marketing company that we had in the city of Bucaramanga. We sold bags and all kinds of products related to the time of year. I stayed with my mother's company until I came to live in Bogota. Throughout my life I have been combining sports with the business and musical side. I am a musician, percussionist and pianist.
